Although “Mary + Jane” hasn’t been praised neither by critics nor by viewers, we estimate the odds on renewal as quite possible, given the quite appropriate television ratings (for a cable network). Currently, according to IMDB, “Mary + Jane” has a score of 4.9 out of 10 based on 135 user votes, 1 review from viewers and 4 reviews from critics. At the same time, according to Rotten Tomatoes, the sitcom has a score of 6.5 out of 10 and a 43% approval rating based on 7 reviews from critics. Meanwhile, according to Metacritic, the comedy series has a score of 56 out of 100 based on 4 reviews from critics, whereas the viewers have rated the first season of “Mary + Jane” at 4.5 out of 5 based on 4 user ratings.
The premiere of Season 1 has drawn 0.458 million viewers with a 0.22 demographic rating among adults (18-49). The subsequent episodes have attracted 0.465 and 0.407 million viewers, respectively. Though these figures don’t seem to be impressive, they are pretty strong for a cable network.
“Mary + Jane” focuses on the adventures of two twenty-something best friends Paige (Jessica Rothe) and Jordan (Scout Durwood) who one day decided to try themselves as drug dealers, by spreading weed in Los Angeles. The TV series is executive produced by Deborah Kaplan, Harry Elfont, Marcus Blakely, Jill McElroy, Ted Chung and Snoop Dogg.
Renewal Potential and Notification of the Release Date
“Mary + Jane” Season 1 debuted this September, and its debut drew 0.458 million viewers, but has received a mixed reception by critics and viewers. MTV has yet to announce the decision on the renewal or cancellation of the comedy series. However, despite the mixed reviews we have every reason to believe that “Mary + Jane” will come back for Season 2 on MTV, mainly due to the quite steady television ratings.
