‘Home Fires’ Series 3 Unexpectedly Cancelled!
A second series of a British period drama “Home Fires” kicked off on April 2, 2016, on ITV, and its debut gained 5.2 million views. Meanwhile, an intriguing question is in limbo, is it the final season of the series or we should wait for “Home Fires” Season 3? Let’s count up the renewal odds of the drama series.
First of all, it’s worth noting that the second season of the period drama keeps impressive television ratings, that are, by the way, much more impressive in comparison with Season 1. Secondly, the second series has received universal acclaim. At the moment, according to IMDB, the drama series has a score of 8 out of 10 based on over 900 user votes, 7 reviews from viewers, and 2 reviews from critics. Finally, the storyline has yet exhausted itself, and there is so much stories to describe.
There are some rumors in the media concerning the series renewal. For instance, RenewCancelTV claims that ITV picked up “Home Fires” for Series 3, which premiere is slated for somewhere in 2017. Meanwhile, we didn’t find any confirmation of this assertion.
A six-episode second season concluded on May 8, 2016. And series fans are eager to find out any information concerning the renewal. However, unfortunately, there hasn’t been any official statements in regard to this fact.
Season 3 Cancellation
UPDATE (May 12, 2016): According to numerous statements by the cast and crew, ITV has unexpectedly made a decision to cancel “Home Fires” after just two seasons. Taking into account that a second season of the series has received universal acclaim and gained 5.2 million viewers during the premiere, the decision seems to us quite bizarre. Later followed the official confirmation of the cancellation:
“We are incredibly proud of what Home Fires has achieved, but the ITV commissioning team continues to refresh the channel’s drama portfolio, hence the decision not to commission a further new series.”
So, unfortunately, this is true. “Home Fires” has been cancelled without any hope for Season 3.
Sum up: “Home Fires” Season 1 debuted on May 3, 2015, and its debut drew 6.2 million viewers. Being impressed of the viewership and reception by critics and viewers, already on June 2, 2015, ITV has confirmed the renewal of “Home Fires” for a second series, which debut has attracted 5.2 million viewers, while the subsequent episodes of the second season have illustrated more impressive ratings.
Taking into account the data represented above, we tend to believe that “Home Fires” Season 3 would take place. Our assumption is mainly based on the favorable reception as well as strong television ratings that provide a commercial success of the series. Nonetheless, we would prefer to wait for the official announcement.
