Of course, the decision on cancellation was a shock for millions viewers and fans of the fantasy series, especially, taking into account the universal acclaim of the fifth series among the viewers. Besides, the television ratings were pretty strong, despite the drop of the viewing audience in the fifth season. Let’s take a look at some figures, in order to find out what forced NBC to make such a decision.
Currently, according to IMDB, “Grimm” has a score of 7.8 out of 10 based on approx. 85,000 user votes, 160 reviews from viewers and 36 reviews from critics. At the same time, according to Rotten Tomatoes, the fifth season of the police procedural drama has an average score of 4.5 out of 5 and a 92% approval rating based on over 150 user votes. Meanwhile, according to Metacritic, the current season of “Grimm” has a score of 8.5 out of 10 based on about 40 user ratings.
The premiere of the fifth season has drawn 4.043 million viewers (-23.43% compared to last season’s premiere) and a 1.09 demo rating among adults (18-49), while a finale of the series has gained 4.032 million viewers with a 0.90 demo rating among adults (18-49). For comparisons, “Grimm” Season 4 averaged a 1.15 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.81 million total viewers.
Thus, all figures seem to us quite favourable, therefore, most likely, NBC cancelled the series due to its logical conclusion. Because, otherwise, there is no actual reason to do that. Ratings were strong, the reception was pretty favourable…
“As the nefarious forces of Black Claw take hold of Portland, Nick must take a stand to protect his city and those closest to him, especially his child with Adalind. It will take the full force of Nick and his allies to find a way to bring the Wesen uprising to a halt. Now that Capt. Sean Renard is poised to make his move to power, his allegiance to Nick will be tested and he will consider drastic measures to ensure his place of authority,” according to NBC.
