‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ Season 3 Confirmed

The CW 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' Season 3 release date -- 2017-2018; renewal confirmed by The CW

Having made its debut on October 13, 2016 at 8|7c on The CW, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2 has lost about a half (-43.40%) of its live viewers, as well as has received a mixed reception. However, in spite of this, millions of loyal fans of the sci-fi action-adventure series strive to figure out whether or not “Legends of Tomorrow” will return for Season 3 on The CW, and if this happens, when will its release date in that case? Fortunately, on January 8, 2017, The CW announced the renewal of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” for a third season, during the network’s session at the TCA Press Tour. Despite the mixed reviews and weak television ratings, we have been expecting the decision on renewal from The CW. However, there were so many things that bothered us. As you may remember, there were plenty of rumours regarding an incredibly high-priced budget for a second season. Many experts have been expecting that “Legends of Tomorrow” will conclude after just one season. However, in spite of all these speculations, The CW has picked up “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” for two more seasons.

Let’s take a look at some figures in order to learn why The CW made this decision. Currently, according to IMDB, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” holds a score of 7.1 out of 10 based on over 47,000 user votes, 154 reviews from viewer and 34 reviews from critics. At the same time, according to Rotten Tomatoes, the current season of the sci-fi series has an average score of 6.07 out of 10 and a 70% approval rating among critics, while among the viewers the second series of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” has a score of 3.6 out of 5 and a 65% approval rating. As we may see, the second season turned pretty favourable, as for the reception by critics and viewers.

The premiere episode of the second season has drawn 1.819 million viewers (-43.40% compared to last season’s premiere) with a 0.60 demo rating (-51.22%) among adults (18-49). For comparison, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” Season 1 averaged a 0.80 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.17 million total viewers (Live+SD). Frankly, the viewing figures of the current season don’t look so impressive. We consider these statistic data as a very significant drop of the viewing audience.

“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” focuses on the adventures of a time-traveling team assembled by rogue Rip Hunter, in order to protect the world and time against the total destruction. The TV series is created by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and Phil Klemmer, who also serve as executive producers.
